What is Postural restoration?

Postural Restoration, often referred to as PRI, is an integrative and holistic treatment approach which thoroughly evaluates and retrains the way your body moves to alleviate pain, increase relaxation, and restore ease of movement.

The human body is not symmetrical. On the outside, we all appear even with two arms, two legs, two eyes, etc. However, the inside of our body is not even. Our brain, nerves, lungs, blood vessels, muscular and visual systems are not equal from side to side. Each structure is part of a system and these systems each have unique demands, distinctive functions, and are in differing positions. These positions, along with the nervous system and muscular use, all contribute to dominant asymmetrical movement patterns. These asymmetrical movement patterns, together with poor habits or injury, will lead to strain on joints, tendons and muscles, and over time breakdown and pain occurs.

The techniques used by a Postural Restoration Certified therapist help you inhibit dominant patterns of movement, restore proper joint position, and reprogram muscular sequencing. This therapeutic approach is particularly beneficial for treating symptoms that are chronic, symptoms that have not responded well to other forms of treatment, and symptoms that gradually occurred over time, or spontaneously without any know reason. It is also very useful when recovering from accidents or overuse injuries.
